Limited Time Email Addresses

Ah, spam.  Gone are the days when you could have a mailto: link or email address on your website and not have it immediately deluged with spam.  Spammers run "web spiders" that harvest anything that looks like an email address from any webpages they can find.

I created a new email address a while ago and put it on one of my webpages (just as text, not even a mailto: link).  I didn't use it to send mail, nor did I tell anyone about it.  It took three whole days before the first piece of spam arrived.  Whee.

To fight this problem I've create a Limited Time Email setup that generates pseudo-random addresses that remain valid for only a short time (7-14 days or so).  Add a little server-side include hackery, and voila: a contact web page with a working mailto: link that isn't a spam magnet.

The Real Address

If you want my real email address you need to solve a small puzzle: it's my last name (logan) at the domain where this web page is (gremlin.ca).  That's not too hard, eh?  Still, people seem to like the "click here" links better....
